It’s widely known that America values dissent: Hundreds, if not thousands, of social rights activists, politicians, writers, and revolutionaries have emerged throughout our nation’s history and effected change. However, it’s unfair to view dissent as a purely American activity. As we have seen time and again, from the Arab Spring to the heated demonstrations in Rio de Janeiro, the right to dissent has gone global.
