Peter Mitchell is Professor of African Archaeology at the University of Oxford, Tutor and Fellow in Archaeology at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, and a Research Associate of the Rock Art Research Institute, University of the Witwatersrand. He has worked in southern African archaeology for 40 years and has undertaken extensive fieldwork on hunter-gatherer sites in Lesotho. He is also a past president of the Society of Africanist Archaeologists (SAfA).
